This volume is about the future of integration and inclusion in a multiracial America where aspirations of equal opportunity are at war with endemic civil rights fatigue...an honest and rigorous inventory of the state of racial inequality in this country represents the essential first step toward reinvigorating a new civil rights movement--one aimed at both completing the agenda set forth in the 1960s and at identifying a new set of priorities brought on by the changing nature of our increasingly multiracial society. Its success will depend on whether the foot soldiers in the new movement--lawyers, elected officials, journalists, academics, business leaders, artists, educators, and everyone else--are armed with the information, data, and understanding they need to make their case compellingly and effectively.
