Intruder at Windgates

When Jane arrived at Windgates in the Scottish Highlands to visit her great-aunt, Ellen Ferguson, it was to discover that the old lady had been bought out of her beloved home by a complete stranger -- Morris Leslie -- and was understandably bitter about it. Was Morris Leslie the villain that Aunt Ellen considered him? And even if he were not, how could loyalty to her aunt allow Jane to admit it?
