L'éducation dans le monde romain

Based on numerous studies that have appeared in recent years about the organization of the Roman school system in the provinces, the material that was taught, the teachers, or the role of rhetoric, this book offers a synthesis of the research that presents the main advances in our knowledge of education in the Roman world. It contradicts the idea of an unchanging educational system that was identical everywhere, and instead emphasizes the capacity of the Roman educational system to evolve, and its relative diversity as it adapted to different conditions in the provinces. This work covers the Roman world as a whole, in order to show specific conditions in the provinces whenever possible, and it covers the time period from the beginning of the republican era to the death of Commodus in 192 AD.
