Five centuries of ballet, 1575-1944

"Our exhibition, probably the first of its kind anywhere, shows only a few hundred of the thousands of artistic pieces which compose the pictorial heritage left behind by five centuries of ballet activities. Scores of artists realized the interest of the field and they did not fail to expolit its many possibilities for our enjoyment. Most of them were French and their art which throughout time had infused foreign ideas with its own heirlooms of meansure, fantasy and discriminations is now traditional with ballet, an art often renewed though always itself, which in spite of its very long life, remains eternally young." -- Foreward.
