This volume comprises a set of book reviews by Doctor Justin Allen. Allen was chairman of the library trustees, and would write lengthy reviews of new books. He liked history, biographies, and travel books. He was also superintendent of schools, worked to establish the free Town Library, and served as president of the Historical Society. He bequeathed the sum of $8,000 to fund the Civil War monument, Wounded Color Sargent.
