In Bible characters we often learn more of God and His dealings with men and the principles on which God acts than in the commands and promises. And men's characters and God's dealings with men are not so much revealed in dry statistics. No, characters are best portrayed as they react to temptation and blessing, persecution and victory, fall and recovery, sin and forgiveness. So I believe that in the great crisis of some Bible characters we may find the most salient facts about each life. - Preface.
