About this book

The "Leonilson: truth, fiction" presents an overview of the work of José Leonilson (b. Fortaleza, 1957- d. São Paulo, 1993), who was a member of the "80 's generation", and brings together works that integrated the exhibition organized by Adriano Pedrosa curator for the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, held between August and November 2014. Also incorporates sewing and embroidery, and the use of words, paintings, illustrations and installations, Leonilson constructs a sort of diary that transits between delicacy and intensity. The book proposes better understanding of his universe, and, in addition to the more than 200 images, brings a long conversation between the artist and the curator of the show, which is also the organizer of the book. The selection focuses on his "mature" production (paintings, drawings, embroidery, objects and an installation) by the artist, with works from 1987, and includes the last piece designed by Leonilson: an installation mounted in the Chapel of Morumbi in 1993.
