"The philologist Christian Gottlob Heyne (1729-1812) and the archeologist, journalist, and educator Karl August Böttiger (1760-1835) exchanged around 300 letters between 1788 and 1812. Their letters not only describe events in which they were directly involved but also show how both scholars were actively involved in restructuring the landscape of German academic life as "networkers" and "managers" of scientific activity." --
