Starting out from the city of Barbizon during the mid-19th century, Parisian painters went on a search for the "atmosphere of the landscape" in the forest of Fontainebleau. The catalogue illustrates this movement using works by Théodore Rousseau, Narcisse Diaz de la Peña, and others.
