Holiness remains today a phenomenon that is not clearly defined, and that can be aligned differently depending on social environment. The thin line between holiness and heresy is the focus of this volume, which addresses the question of sacredness and deviation from the norm. The contributions in this volume investigate aspects of sacralization and deviant behavior from the perspective of different disciplines, including history, German studies, comparative religions, and Indology.
