State and society in Francophone Africa since independence

This collection of essays by leading European and African scholars examines the politics, economics, international relations and aspects of the literary scene of France and of the former territories of Francophone West Africa since 1960. The approach is emphatically a thematic one rather than a country-by-country analysis, and is one of the few studies of state and society in French-speaking Africa to be published in English.
