About this book

The collection of Grażyna and Jacek Łozowski is one of the major Polish private art collections of Polish art. It was begun 50 years ago. Originally, the collecting passion was passed on to Jacek by his father, a connoisseur and himself a collector of Polish paintings. In time, Jacek Łozowski became an independent collector, supported by his wife Grażyna, who is the co-author of the collection. The entire set consists of a few hundred paintings by Polish artists, spanning the period from the second half of the 19th century through the most recent works. The State Gallery of Art in Sopot shows a selection of the works made at the turn of the 20th century and in the period between the world wars. The set of paintings, prints and drawings is supplemented by five exquisite sculptures from that period: Swish and Whoosh by Sławomir Celiński, Faun Playing the Syrinx by Konstanty Laszczka, Madonna by Xawery Dunikowski, and two female heads by Henryk Kuna.
