Ideario de los arquitectos mexicanos

Ideario de los arquitectos mexicanos2010

Ramón Vargas, J. Victor Arias Montes

About this book

The complete anthological set accounts for the important academic and analytical production, as well as the quality of the ideas that transformed the production of Mexican architecture in the late 19th century and during the 20th century. The first volume comprises the texts of those architects from the previous two centuries that stood out for their built work and their ideas on different aspects of the function and use of built space. Some important names include Manuel Torres, Antonio Rivas Mercado, Nicolas and Federico Mariscal and Jesús T. Acevedo amongst others. In the second volume, architect Vargas Salguero explains how as outcome of the armed movement in 1910 a new architecture of the "Revolution" was created, a new style that modified drastically the French style architecture in fashion during the Porfiriato. These "forgotten" Mexican architects started modifying, generating and promoting their own ideas after the Mexican Revolution through academic and cultural means. Some architects mentioned include Nicolas and Federico Mariscal, Alfonso Cravioto, Carlos J.S. Hall, Alfonso Pallares, Miguel Ángel de Quevedo and Manuel Amabilis amongst others. The third volume titled "New Proposals" includes a total of 70 texts (articles, opinions and reviews) that account for the conflictive history of the professional education of the post-revolutionary architect and the emergence of modern architecture in Mexico. An essential reference for the evolution of architecture in 20th century Mexico. The complete anthology accounts for the important academic and analytical production, as well as the quality of the ideas that transformed the production of Mexican architecture in the late 19th century and during the 20th century.
