About this book

He entered the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture in 1775 and was awarded the Prix de Rome prize in 1790. Jacques Réattu is a great painter of a key period in history (the French Revolution) and the history of art (Neoclassicism). Among his best-known works are the decoration of the Temple of Reason in Marseilles - a series of eight monumental paintings painted in grisaille in imitation of bas-reliefs and illustrating the revolutionary ideals - his theatrical and theatrical projects, city ​​hotels in Marseille, Nimes and Lyon and a religious setting for the church of St Paul de Beaucaire.
