After losing his high-paying job as a security officer, L.A. detective Moses Wine takes a job investigating a comic -- the straight man in the country's most popular comedy team -- who jumped off a building to his death. But was it suicide? The dead man's wife thinks not; she's sure it was murder. So is Moses. His invesigation leads him from the swank beaches of Los Angeles to the mean streets of the South Bronx and brings him in contact with some of the toughest, sexiest, weirdest characters he's ever encountered.
