Kenya

The present study constitutes part of the work undertaken by the Institute in response to the resolution adopted by the General Assembly at its fortieth session requesting the Secretary-General of the United Nations to "prepare a report on patterns of consumption and related socio-economic indicators ... based on the work done by relevant bodies in the United Nations system and in particular the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development". This study is an admirable survey and evaluation of the impressive range of data available in Kenya on living conditions. The author provides a useful account of the available statistics in such areas as demography, food, health, education, housing and basic amenities, communication, participation, employment, personal security and leisure, recreation and entertainment.
