About this book
In 1989 the Centro Regionale di Catalogazione e Restauro dei Beni Culturali started the computerized filing of music sources, thus providing an updated coverage of the major Archives in the Province of Udine (including the Chapters of Cividale and of Udine's Cathedral, as well as the Municipal Library of Udine). The music manuscripts that the Chapter managed to retain in its own archives - following the transfer of the most ancient Codices to the Italian State - are the autographs by the masters of the Cathedral's Chapel dating back to the mid-XVIIIth Century. On the whole, they make up the main body of sacred music works kept there. The vast majority of the works are by Pietro Alessandro Pavona and Luigi Rizzotti, i.e. the major musicians active there from 1755 to 1832. Over time, seven more funds were added to the original body of works, two of which contained the almost complete opus by Giovanni Battista Candotti (1809-1876) and Jacopo Tomadini (1820-1883), while three more were donated in 1897 by such Chapter members as Guglielmo de Claricini, Natale Mattiussi, Giuseppe Tessitori. A small body of secular music works of unknown origin still preserves traces of the non-lithurgic activities of the Chapters' musicians, who were involved in musical entertainment and the performance of operas from as early as the mid-XVIIIth Century. Lastly, the most recent acquisitions include Antonio Fraboschi's works, which were donated by his heirs in 1996.--Abstract in English.
