About this book
The novel is set in South Africa during the last days of the white regime. The heroine is Vera Stark, a white lawyer who works to restore land taken from blacks by the government. Her political work is played out against a background of family problems, among them an overbearing husband, a lesbian daughter and a son who has emigrated to England and is divorcing his wife.
