In the wake of White House visits by the presidents of both nations, continuing regional violence and the resurgence of the Taliban threatens to undermine the fragile peace between Afghanistan and Pakistan -- two states torn between unnecessary cooperation in the War on Terror and tense disputes over territory and the influence of Islamic constituencies. How has the relationship between these two regional powers changed since the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States, and what roles can we expect them to play in the future?
