Event 10001971

David Lavallee

About this book

A technical accomplishment by a former submariner-naval officer-professional diver whose professional savvy is reflected in his precise description of a nuclear submarine that is rammed by a freighter and goes 1235 feet down, trapping her survivors. Frantic efforts go into completing a rescue chamber topside while, on the bottom, the wait against fate drags on -- days pass into weeks and the life support system slowly disintegrates along with the morale of the men. Lavallee doctors his story with some international intrigue (the Russians) but the machinery is more convincing than the machinations and there is that lethargy when the oxygen supply dwindles. It may be more of an Event when it appears as a film.
