About this book

"The present work persents the study of the ceramic material from the sealed contexts that were found in the monumental area of Yaxchilan, dated to the Late Classic: vessels recovered in the tombs of the ruling elite and in some of the burials that represent a lower status, in addition to caches, which are deposits that correspond to ritual offerings. It is considered feasible to classify what social status this ceramic is associated with by analyzing the quality and quantity of the paraphernalia that makes up the burial and its location within the site. Based on the available typologies, on the existing petrographic data and on preliminary results of neutron activation for certain eramic types, it is sought to determine the degree of local and foreign ceramic consumption, as well as the possible regions of their origin." (HKB Translation) --Verso Cover. Study of ceramic artifacts dating from Late Classic age recovered from sealed environments (funeral and ritual sites) in ancient Mayan city of Yaxchilan, Chiapas. Analyzes vessels and figurines recovered from tombs of governing elite and from ritual offerings. Suggests information on social status associated with this type of ceramic, plus delves into production methods and source of raw materials for both local and imported ceramics.
