An experimental shield system thats tied to the warp engines is tested near the largest star in the galaxy, but as they test their new shields near the star a gravitational like black hole is created and there only escape from the crushing gravitational forces is to enter with due haste to save the ship. Soon the learn that they are in a parallel universe where everything seems the same, but it is not only different but a hostile universe.
