Procesos urbanos en América Latina en el paso del siglo XIX al XX2020

"Durante las últimas décadas del siglo XIX y primeras del XX, las ciudades de América Latina fueron sujetas a intervenciones sustentadas en las ideas del higienismo y su posterior evolución a urbanismo, buscando atender las condiciones de insalubridad, disfuncionalidad y mala imagen prevalecientes, para así integrarse a la nueva modernidad que recorría al mundo. De ahí la pretensión de este libro, por mostrar los esfuerzos de gobiernos y profesionales que intentaron transformar espacios de vida urbanos, a partir de la apropiación y reelaboración de teorías, técnicas, métodos, legislaciones y cuestiones administrativas, procedentes sobre todo de Europa. En esa intención, se hizo un análisis histórico basado en un proceso asumido por el urbanismo, en el cual se parte de analizar problemas; se continúa con la construcción de teorías interpretativas y propositivas, junto a métodos y técnicas; se prosigue con la confección de leyes, para finalmente, diseñar y ejecutar planes y proyectos. Fue indispensable consultar textos de la época analizada, así como de autores contemporáneos, además de visitar las ciudades en cuestión, para presentar aspectos de la historia del urbanismo en América Latina, en los que, sin duda, aún es necesario profundizar."--Page 4 of cover. During the last decades of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th, the cities of Latin America were subject to interventions based on the ideas of hygienism and its subsequent evolution to urbanism, seeking to address the conditions of unhealthiness, dysfunction and bad image prevailing, in order to integrate into the new modernity that traveled the world. Hence the pretension of this book, to show the efforts of governments and professionals who tried to transform urban living spaces, from the appropriation and reworking of theories, techniques, methods, legislations and administrative issues, coming mainly from Europe. In this intention, a historical analysis was made based on a process assumed by urbanism, in which it is based on analyzing problems; it continues with the construction of interpretative and propositional theories, together with methods and techniques; it continues with the preparation of laws, to finally, design and execute plans and projects. It was essential to consult texts of the time analyzed, as well as contemporary authors, in addition to visiting the cities in question, to present aspects of the history of urbanism in Latin America, in which, without a doubt, it is still necessary to deepen."
