Essays studying wide range of Baja California's history and society in 20th century. First section contains works on period between revolution and present--organization of nascent revolutionary state, Chinese immigration, repercussions of World War II and other topics. Second half contains analysis of modern-day society, including urban and environmental processes, migration, political transition, maquiladora industry, women's rights, religious diversity, drug trafficking, and many other facets.
