About this book

"Claridad: the avant-garde in combat" exhibition features the different avant-garde aspects of the political, intellectual and social life in Argentina during 3 decades (1920-1940) through the art that illustrated the popular magazine of art, criticism and literature "Revista Claridad" directed by Antonio Zamora, through the graphic art created by the artists from collective Artistas del Pueblo (Arato, Facio Hbequer, Abraham Vigo, etc.) who collaborated politically and artistically with the magazine. Following an erudite curatorship designed by Sergio Baur the event reflects on how the exiled European revolutionary intellectuals, authors and artists transformed the history in Argentina in the early decades of the 20th century with their European ideals, aesthetics, ways of association and their fundamental role in the defense of man against war and fascism. The exhibition alternated works from the holdings of the MNBA collection, with public and private collections, first editions of the books published by the Grupo de Boedo (Elías Castelnuovo, Barletta, Alvaro Yunque; Enrique and Raúl González Tuñón, Pedro Calou, etc.) serials related to the magazine Claridad, and fragments of films by national and international directors and period photographs.
