The Designs of Academic Literacy
About this book
Newman studies four unique individuals, and asks "What is academic literacy?" His models are individuals faced with learning or socioeconomic challenges, who learn rapidly prove they can learn what they consider important material across their lifespan but face difficulties succeeding in the traditional college environment. Newman seeks to find exactly what it takes, socially, intellectually, and emotionally, to succeed in college, the basic mechanics of success beyond the ability to learn.
