Biography
Bio from Encyclopedia of Cleveland History - "Volunteer Army officer in the CIVIL WAR. He enlisted in the 65th Ohio Volunteer Infantry for 3 years on 12 Oct. 1861, serving as 1st sergeant until promotion to 1st lieutenant of Co. E on 16 June 1861. He was wounded at the Battle of Chickamauga, Ga., 19 Sept. 1863, but recovered to be promoted to captain, Co. F, June 1864. He was mustered out as captain on 30 Nov. 1865. Hinman returned to Cleveland after military service, where in 1878 he was a member of the Cleveland Board of Education committee organized to set up a school library system. He served as clerk of the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court, being elected in 1875 and reelected in 1878."
