Gijs Kessler, born in 1969, is a Senior Research Fellow at the International Institute of Social History (IISH) in Amsterdam, specializing in the social and economic history of Russia and the Soviet Union. Between 2002 and 2016, he resided in Moscow, where he not only contributed to IISH but also taught at the distinguished BA programme of the New Economic School. He co-founded the Electronic Repository of Russian Historical Statistics. His recent publication, Rusland – land dat anders wil zijn, provides a personal perspective on three decades of change within Russia.
