Biography
Anne Brooks was born in New York City. She attended City and Country and Lincoln Schools in that city, took a brief business course, and at seventeen was in the publishing business, performing such jobs as running a switchboard, typing labels, and sealing thousands of envelopes. She was an assistant editor when she left to do free-lance writing, and the same firm, William Morrow and Company, published her two novels, Kingdom on Earth and Hang My Heart. During the war Anne Brooks worked for the OWI, writing radio news shows, and while there married Jerome D. Ross. They had two children, and she combined the role of wife and mother with occasional editorial assignments.
